Inova Health System will announce a formal partnership with the WNBA’s Washington Mystics at a launch event on Monday, May 17, at Inova Fairfax Hospital. The partnership — formed to address the growing issue of childhood obesity — was created to motivate children, teens and their families to live healthier, more active lifestyles.
“At Inova, we see it as our fundamental obligation to help the communities we serve live healthier, more fulfilling lives,” said Rod Williams, Vice President, Community Affairs, Inova Health System. “We’re taking the next step to help educate and motivate young people in the region by partnering with the Washington Mystics, a winning organization that advocates health, wellness, and strong community involvement.”
As part of the partnership, Mystics players will work with students at area schools, offer tips and tools for healthy eating and getting more exercise, and visit patients at Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children.
“As the greater Washington, DC region’s professional women’s basketball team, we are committed to communicating the importance of a healthy lifestyle,” Mystics Chief Operating Officer Greg Bibb stated. “Through our relationship with Inova Health System and our partnership with their doctors, nurses, healthcare experts and tens of thousands of employees, we will be able to combine the resources of our two organizations to reach more people in a meaningful way in terms of educating individuals about living healthy. We are pleased to join Inova Health System for this important cause and excited about all of the possibilities surrounding the endeavor.”
