On Friday, September 10, 2010, the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber will celebrate the 11th annual HobNob in the Valley. The event brings together the general public, area business people, elected officials and candidates listed on the November ballot in a casual, multi-partisan gathering that celebrates the American electoral process.
This event gives everyone the opportunity to mix politics and pleasure allowing the exchange of information on issues and legislation while facilitating the building of relationships with political officials and guests.
There are also two opportunities for participants to express their views. A Straw Poll mirrors the November ballot, listing all the congressional candidates and local races. Processed electronically, the straw poll “takes the local pulse”, reflecting the views of those in attendance.
Federal, State and local candidates on the November ballot will be permitted to provide a short speech identifying key issues each supports. Candidates will have the opportunity to be interviewed by news reporters from TV3 Winchester and several radio stations as well as print media.
Invitations have also been extended to elected and appointed officials such as Governor Bob McDonnell, Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling, Senators John Warner and Jim Webb, and elected regional representatives of City and County governments. So far, the Chamber has confirmation from several federal and state level officials and candidates. All three candidates for the Virginia House of Representatives 10th District seat will be represented. Congressman Frank Wolfe and his Democratic opponent Jeff Barnett will be in attendance. The Libertarian candidate Bill Redpath will not be able to attend but will have strong representation at the event. Senator Jill Vogel and Delegate Beverly Sherwood have also stated their intention to be present.
The event runs from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $20.00 per person and may be purchased online at www.regionalchamber.biz or by calling the chamber office at 540-662-4118. Tickets are also available at various Handy Mart stores in Winchester. Ticket costs include a barbeque dinner, beverage of choice and one vote in the straw poll. The event is held outdoors at Shenandoah University’s Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy, 1775 N. Sector Court, Winchester, Virginia. The location is on the campus of Winchester Medical Center, easily accessible from the Route 37 By-Pass.
The Chamber is pleased to have the sponsorship support of Annandale Millwork & Allied Systems, Phillip S. Griffin, II, PC, Clear Channel Communications, and The River 95.3, and the support of H.N. Funkhouser and Handy Mart stores.
The Top of Virginia Regional Chamber serves about 900 members, representing over 35,000 area employees. Its mission is to create diverse, innovative partnerships and opportunities for its members and the community.
